WORLD CARP CLASSIC QUALIFIER AUSTRALASIA
The World Carp Classic Qualifier Australasia event is unlike any other carp angling competition ever held in Australia. The event offer anglers and businesses an unique opportunity to be part of this extremely popular international competition. For the first time in history will we have teams form across Australia and New Zealand compete for the honour to fish in the world’s largest and most elite carp fishing competition. What makes the 2018 competition even more special is the fact that it is also the 20th Anniversary, meaning it will be even bigger, better and more festive than ever before. For many, this truly is an once in a lifetime opportunity!
The Australasia Qualifier will be held in March and will take place on the beautiful banks of Yass dam in New South Wales. Those fortunate enough to qualify will have the opportunity to compete in the World Carp Classic finals which will take place at Lac De Mandine in France. (Anglers are responsible for all costs and arrangements except where and if we manage to secure sponsors)
The World Carp Classic was established in 1998 and has become the biggest, most prestigious and popular carp angling event in the world. Perhaps of equal importance to the organisers, it has become known affectionately throughout the carping community as being far more than an angling competition. Uniquely, it is endorsed by many to be a celebration of angling with an amazing festive atmosphere. It is an achievement the organisers can justifiably be proud of.
We are honoured to be part of this prestigious angling event and aim to replicate the high standard of the final and many qualifying competitions all around the world. Carp’s wide distribution also makes it likely to be the most fished for sport fish with millions of anglers participating in one or more of the styles specific to carp angling. The style of fishing used for our competition is known as Specimen carp angling where the focus is on catching big carp. Setting a good foundation on which we can build for future events is of the utmost importance to us.
The main goal of the competition is to serve as qualifier for the WCC Finals in France but we also understand that not all competitors will be in the financial position to afford the considerable cost involved to attend the finals and for this reason will we also have a variety of other prizes of which the details will be confirmed closer to the competition date.
Showcasing the sport to the Australian public can only lead to a steady growth in participation numbers and towns like Yass and many others in the future, will reap the rewards for hosting these competitions. Our goal is to have similar but more regular events, the size of our events will grow and so will the exposure for our sponsoring partners.
It is important to note that this is not a carp cull event and that this competition will be held according to the International ethics of Specimen Carp Angling as a Sport. Our competition will therefor also be an exhibition of the sport and all the associated tackle, equipment, social and health benefits as well as the economic benefits for the business community.
Competition Format:
Teams consisting of two anglers will over a period of 48 hours compete to secure their spot at the final event in France. The competition placings will be determined by the cumulative weight of the 3 biggest carp caught per team, with the team having the combined greatest weight being declared the winners. The same formula will be used to determine the other placing and associated prizes.
Teams going to France will be made up of 2 or preferably 3 anglers per team. The organisers of the final event allocated us three spots which will be made up of one Australian team, one New Zealand team and a third which will be from one of the two countries. We may therefor end up with either two Australian teams and one New Zealand or Two New Zealand and one Australian team. These anglers will represent our respective countries and even though it won’t be in an official capacity, will the Australian and New Zealand flags fly high and proud for the world to see and we will cheer them on all the way!
