BANK ANGLER ANGLING CLUB SURVEY
Establishing and growing Bank Angler Angling clubs is the first real step towards giving our sport a solid foundation and much needed structure. This is essential to grow the sport in Australia and ultimately be part of the international angling community.
The purpose of this survey is to provide us with much needed information which will be used to properly plan, establish and manage these clubs in the best way possible.
Before completing the survey we recommend that you first read the
Bank Angler Angling Club “ABOUT” page
to familiarize yourself with what our club is all about, what our goals are and how we plan to achieve them.
Our first two clubs will be established in NSW and the ACT. We will also be negotiating for “Catch and Release” permits in the other states and if successful will proceed with setting up clubs in those states as well. A high response rate on this survey from all the states will therefore be extremely important as it will reaffirm a real demand for Bank Angling clubs across Australia. Completing the questionnaire is unfortunately only halve the job done, please share this page with as many friends, family and other relevant pages as you can. Carp angling is very popular all around the world and many people who now live in Australia emigrated from those countries. It would be great if the link to this page can be shared to Facebook pages where people who immigrated would normally discuss various topics with their ex- countrymen. Many immigrants simply do not know that an opportunity like this exist and will never know unless we tell them. We share numerous things on a daily basis, let’s see how far this can go.
One of the most important parts of the questionnaire is to determine who in the different states are willing to assist with setting up these clubs. There really is not too much work involved and I urge those who are unsure of something or have questions to please contact or email me,
[email protected]
. Setting up these clubs will be a team effort and something all of us will one day be very proud of.
Some very basic information about the club:
Meetings / Competitions will take place on the first full weekend of every month with a possible social meeting 2 weeks later. Having it on the first weekend of the month makes it easy to remember and plan ahead. The mid-month fishing sessions are predominantly aimed at the states where we hope to get “Catch and Release” permits. This will give those members additional opportunities to thoroughly enjoy their sport.
The two angling styles we will promote are
Conventional fishing
(including end / terminal tackle used in
Feeder fishing
) and
Specimen fishing
. (
See
Angling Styles
for more details
)
Various species will be targeted and prizes will be awarded accordingly.
All competitions will cater for social and competitive anglers as both play an equally important role in growing the sport.
Having these club events around the country give members the opportunity to catch-up with fellow anglers who share the same passion for Bank angling. There are few things in the world that beat the sound of a screaming reel and sometimes the chaos getting to it in time! The sport is not just about catching a fish, it is also very much about spending time with family and friends, having fun with the kids, sitting around the campfire at night and enjoying all of it in beautiful natural surroundings! Our hope is that this will be the beginning of a healthy and growing Sport in Australia and that regular club competitions / social fishing events and interstate championships will become the norm.
This is not a very lengthy survey and will therefor appreciate it if you complete it in full.

Opinion poll 1: Catch and release
*
A. I will only join a club if catch and release is mandatory for all fish including Carp.
B. I will join a club where: - anglers have the right to catch and release - carp in excess of 5kg (example) must be released - no dead fish will be weighed - no dead fish in open sight
The following are suggestions we would like to present to the Department of Fisheries. Some of these are more applicable to states where catch and release is not allowed. Please tick the ones that you are willing to support in exchange for a more angler friendly carp management plan.
1. Carp fishing licence: The fee will be in the region of $30 - $50 per year and will allow the angler to return all fish. The income generated from this will be allocated towards restocking of native species and habitat repair initiatives.
*
Yes
No
2. Selective release: This is where smaller fish are removed to take pressure of the system. Less small fish + more food = Bigger carp specimens. The suggestion is that all Carp weighing less than 2kg may not be returned to the water. The 2kg figure is only a suggestion and may only apply to certain waterbodies / areas with excessive carp biomass.
*
Yes
No
3. Regulation free area 1: These will be areas where human intervention, pollution and other factors have had a damaging and ongoing detrimental effect on the ecosystem. Native restocking initiatives in these areas will not be viable and carp is most likely the only specie tolerant enough to survive these conditions.
*
Yes
No
4. Regulation free area 2: Areas where the owner or manager of a waterbody wants to allow Catch-and-release for Financial and / or recreational purposes.
*
Yes
No
