Conventional fishing / "PAPGOOI" SURVEY
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to take part in our survey.
The reason for this survey is quite simple, we want to see how many
Conventional anglers
there are in Australia and where you are based. The information will be used to arrange a couple of social fishing events around the country and this will give you the opportunity to catch-up with fellow anglers who share your passion for
Conventional angling
. There are few things in the world that beat the sound of a screaming reel and the sight of a policemen (bite indicator) heading towards the water!!!!
Conventional fishing
is not just about fishing, it is also about spending time with family and friends, having fun with the kids, sitting around the campfire at night and enjoying all of it in beautiful natural surroundings! Our hope is that this will be the beginning of a healthy and growing
Conventional fishing
scene in Australia and that regular club competitions / social fishing events will become the norm.
The beauty of
Conventional fishing
is that you can target a number of different species by simply changing the rig or hookbait. Carp is however by far the most abundant freshwater species in Australian waters and will therefor be the fish that you are most likely to catch. Each state in Australia has it's own regulations regarding carp, ranging from "Catch and release allowed but not recommended" to "Kill all Carp" with the latter being the norm. As Sport anglers we will be working constructively with the relevant departments to develop a better carp management plan that will include carp / sport anglers as part of the solution. The social and economic benefits of carp angling in Australia is enormous and will not only benefit us anglers but have the potential to make a substantial contribution towards boosting native fish numbers. We strongly believe that if all parties are willing to give a little, we will all walk away winners at the end of the day!!! We will in the near future have a more comprehensive document on this and for that reason will limit the number of questions in this survey.
This is a very short survey and we will therefor appreciate it if you complete it in full.

Would you like to do Conventional fishing in Australia?
*
Yes and I am happy to use whatever equipment I can source locally.
Yes, but I will enjoy it more if equipment like Tackle boxes, Tri-pod stands, keepnets, Muties etc. are locally available.
I am not a fisherman but support this initiative.
Would you like to join a club / group in your area?
*
No thanks, I prefer to fish on my own.
Yes please, I would love to meetup with other Conventional style anglers.
Not applicable, non-angler.

The following are some of the suggestions we would like to present to the Department of Fisheries. Please tick the ones that you are willing to support in exchange for a more angler friendly carp management plan.
1. Carp fishing licence: The fee will be in the region of $30 - $50 per year and will allow the angler to return all fish. The income generated from this will be allocated towards restocking of native species.
*
Yes
No
2. Selective release: This is where smaller fish are removed to take pressure of the system. Less fish + more food = Bigger carp specimens and healthier native populations. The suggestion is that all Carp weighing less than 2kg may not be returned to the water. The 2kg figure is only a suggestion and may differ around the country.
*
Yes
No
3. Regulation free area 1: These will be areas where human intervention, pollution and other factors have had a damaging and ongoing detrimental effect on the ecosystem. Native restocking initiatives in these areas will not be viable and carp is most likely the only specie tolerant enough to survive these conditions.
*
Yes
No
4. Regulation free area 2: Areas where the owner or manager of a waterbody wants to allow Catch-and-release for Financial and / or recreational purposes.

Yes
