"NATIONAL CARP CONTROL PLAN" - COMMUNITY FORUMS
Please attend the NCCP's Koi Herpes Virus indoctrination meetings also knows as community forums and raise your concerns. Some of these meetings elaborate on the successful comeback of native fish by addressing the real causes for their demise. We obviously applaud these projects and the wonderful results it's having but it also highlights that these very impressive results can be achieved in the presence of carp. Continuing with these projects will see and exponential growth in the number of predatory native fish in our waters which will ultimately result in a lower carp numbers. More predators can only lead to less prey. Remember, answers regarding carp's negative side will be plentiful but less so when it comes to the negatives of the Koi Herpes virus, do not accept half baked or "don't know" answers, they should have had the answers before they spent money on the roadshow. Remember one thing when attending these meetings, it is not whether or not we reduce excessive carp biomass where necessary, it is how we do it and that is where the big difference lie between the NCCP's wasteful Herpes Virus and the our sensible and socially responsible plan. We encourage people to raise heir own concerns but will in the near future also add some questions you can ask. Details of when and where the meetings will be held is available at the bottom of this page or alternatively click on the following link for the following to hopefully get updated details for the 2018 meetings..

There are a number of questions one can ask even if it include repeating some of the unanswered, half answered or outstanding questions on their website. It is also not just about asking questions, it is about making them understand that many people do not like the idea of infecting our waterways with an irreversible and uncontrollable virus which will result in the unprecedented waste of a world renowned sportfish and food source. Here are some questions and I invite people to add to the list:
1. Why did you (NCCP) not finish researching the potential direct and indirect negative effects / risks of the virus before you started this costly community indoctrination roadshow?
2. You seem to have all the answers when badmouthing carp and praising the killing power of the virus but you do not go to any lengths to discuss the species incredible social and economic potential……how can you expect us (the public) to have a balanced view or response if you only provide us with bias information….are you wasting our time and tax payer dollars?
3. There are only carp haters / bias people working on this project, how ridiculous is that? How on earth are you going to present the government with a credible balanced report which they must use to decide whether or not to introduce this wasteful irreversible virus which will likely be in our waters, forever? Shouldn’t the government then rather receive two bias reports with recommendations on how to control carp in Australia eg. Choose between the NCCP’s “Kill and Waste” Koi herpes virus policy OR the Carp Australia Resource Project (C.A.R.P) based on a sensible and socially responsible “Reduce and Use” model.
4. Who is going to pay the ongoing costs to clean-up the mess you / government are going to create. Will we, the public pay higher taxes / rates or will local governments cut other services to cover the costs.
5. You like to tell us how many Carp will be wasted, when are you going to tell us how many native fish and other critter in and around the infected waterways will die in the black water events and soup of rotting carcasses.
6. Okay so we all know that it is very effective to hang a carrot in front of people by repeatedly taking them back to the good old days (1920??) when people could see the bottom of the rivers, brimming with native fish. The story then has a 50 year gap / edited part in which native fish already showed a significant decline in numbers. This gap is the time when other causes where responsible for the declining native fish biomass and many of the causes are still around but in even greater numbers with even more detrimental effects. But hey, who wants to know about that if we can talk about the horrible worthless carp…… that is after all what we (NCCP) are getting paid to do….Interesting to see that some of those other causes which has caused so much damage to native populations are now being addressed and the results are remarkable.
7. The stories of crystal clear waters which the Koi Herpes Virus advocates use to set the scene for the gullible audience aren’t going to happen again. The best the NCCP can do is to promise clearer water, what does that mean 5%, 10% who knows. What are the other reasons why we won’t see clear waters and aren't they the real reasons for poor water quality?
8. Apparently one of the other reasons why carp is so bad is because they clog irrigation pumps / pipes?? If there is a change in balance where Native fish make up 80% of the total fish biomass and carp only 20%, is it fair to say that natives will then be responsible for clogging up pipes and damage to irrigation equipment? Will it then still be a problem or should we maybe just fix the problem now so no fish, native or carp, can get in the pipes.
Please feel free to send me more questions to add to the list.
