BULK ORDER WA

The Bank Angler Angling Club WA Inaugural Club competition will take place on Saturday 3 November at Golden Ponds. I know myself and many of you are really looking forward to it but there are a couple of things we need to do to ensure that everyone who take part has the right equipment. Having the opportunity to start a Bank Angling club at Golden Ponds and to share the facility with the Coarse Angling club is a privilege. Both these parties have over a number of years spent a lot of time and money to ensure that those of us who fish there have a good chance of catching healthy- and good-looking fish. This is why it is important that we continue to set a good example of how to take care and handle the fish we catch. Some of these fish are caught many times over and using the right equipment properly will ensure that we will continue to catch healthy good-looking fish for many years to come. I will discuss safe fish handling, Barbless hooks and the use of disgorgers to remove hooks in a separate newsletter. Some of the items you will need are not available in Australia and you will either have to order online from an overseas supplier or you can make use of our bulk order offer. Those who choose to make use of the bulk order offer must please place your order via the Bank Angler website by the end of tomorrow 11 October.

I apologise for the short notice but it gives us the best chance to receive our order in time for the competition. Items 1, 2 and 3 forms part of the Bulk order and is available on our store page, the other items can be ordered directly via Ebay or any other online tackle shop.
1. Keepnet: Having a fish-friendly keepnet is necessary for those of you who want to compete or have your fish weighed after our next club meeting. Being our first official club meeting means we will now also start with prizes, recordkeeping and a leaderboard to determine our club champions. It is therefor not a requirement for those who only fish socially but definitely good to have…..just in case you land that really big one, the winning fish! The bulk order offers a choice of three keepnets ranging from in price from $25 to $60. The 2 more expensive options do have a finer mesh which is more fish friendly especially considering that the carp’s fins sometime get stuck in keepnets with bigger holes. The basic net however is good enough and might be a good option for those who do not intend to fish regularly or families who want to buy more than 1 or 2 nets.

2. Bank Stick. You will need to add one for every keepnet you purchase. This is used to lift the opening of the keepnet well above the waterline to prevent fish from jumping out.

3. Unhooking mat: This is used to unhook your fish. It helps to minimize loss of the fish’s natural protective layer, damage to or loss of scales as well as reduce risk if organ damage. It is a requirement that every peg / family group have at least one unhooking mat. The one we have available as part of the bulk order is an entry level model. There are much bigger and better ones available but they can cost substantially more.

4. Landing net: This MUST be used to land ALL fish, big and small. No fish may be lifted out of the water using the rod or dragged out onto the bank. These can be purchased locally at places like BCF. We recommend that you look at the ones with rubberized netting. This one is currently on special at BCF:
Rogue Telescopic Landing Net 1.9m
WAS $44.99  NOW $31.49,  Ends 11/10/18

5. Rod pods: The ground around the ponds we fish become like concrete during the summer months and getting the rear bankstick in is in many cases impossible. We also would prefer if people do not make use of hammers to knock pegs into the ground as it might not only chase fish away from your spot but also the people sitting next to you. Having a rod pod to place your rods on just make things a lot easier. The following two models are available on eBay. I had similar one’s setup on Saturday to give people an idea of what they look like in real life. The main difference is that the cheaper option will still get the job done but is not as sturdy. This, like with the keepnets might be an option for families or people who will only be able to attend a couple of club meetings.
